Brian Campo
US Coast Guard
Mr. Brian Campo serves as the U.S. Coast Guard’s Deputy Assistant Commandant for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Information Technology (CG-6). In this capacity, he also serves as the Coast Guard’s Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO). He joined the USCG after serving as the Chief Technology Officer for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and has been with DHS since 2018.
In his role as the Deputy CIO, Mr. Campo leads the development, management and maintenance of technology solutions in support of USCG’s 11 statutory missions. This includes development of the strategic guidance and implementation of the Commandant’s Technical Revolution which is focused on improving 5 key areas of technology within the organization including: Cutter Connectivity, Command and Control (C2) and Navigations systems modernization, Cyber Readiness, Data for Decisions, Communications, and Software, Mobility, and Cloud Solutions. The Office of the CIO is currently pursuing critical technology enablers to address Zero Trust Architecture, conversion to IPv6, improving customer experiences and expediting capability delivery through DevSecOps principles.
Mr. Campo is responsible for providing management of USCG’s 7 IT Program Offices, acquisition oversight for $1B+ of IT acquisitions, and technical authority for the IT enterprise. His Directorate works with programs throughout the engineering lifecycle, aligning mission needs with technology to deliver solutions that optimize the USCG operating missions is support of the Department’s ability to protect the homeland.
Prior to joining DHS, Mr. Campo spent 10 years in the private sector supporting the Commercial, U.S. Department of Defense and federal clients. Across each of these industries, he focused on applying Information Technology application to mission needs. Throughout his career, he has managed the modernization of major programs across the federal government, driving strategic alignment of governance, policy, and technical delivery to create better mission outcomes. He has focused on leading the development of enterprise capabilities through effective stakeholder engagement, fielding technical solutions, and transformational use of emerging technologies.
Mr. Campo is a native of York, Pennsylvania. He previously served as a federal civilian with the US Navy and on active duty as a naval nuclear engineer in the Navy’s submarine force. He graduated from the Naval Nuclear Power School in mechanical engineering. He holds DAWIA certifications in program management, engineering, and Information Technology from the Defense Acquisition University. He holds many IT certifications, most recently, Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile certified professional, and ICAgile certified professional.
