We're hosting a tour of Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Center on March 24th at 2 pm. The Cyber Crimes Center (C3) consists of four units – Cyber Crimes (CCU), Child Exploitation (CEIU), Computer Forensics (CFU), and Training & Engagement (CTEU).
CCU acts as HSI’s primary component to support the agency’s mission to conduct high-impact criminal investigations and prosecute criminal cyber networks, and to prevent far-reaching cybercrime to effectively secure the Nation from sophisticated malicious actors. The CCU provides investigative support, resources, and tools to further the most complex cyber investigations and online undercover operations.
CEIU investigates producers and distributors of child sexual abuse material, as well as individuals who travel abroad for the purpose of engaging in sex with minors, also known as transnational child sexual offenders. The CEIU employs the latest technology to collect evidence and track the activities of individuals and organized groups who sexually exploit children through the use of websites, chat rooms, peer-to-peer trading, and other internet-based platforms.
CFU is the nerve center of the HSI Computer Forensic Program (CFP). The CFP is comprised of approximately 375 Computer Forensics Agents/Analysts (CFA) trained to seize, process, and analyze evidentiary data stored on digital storage devices, such as computers, external storage media, flash drives, and mobile devices such as phones and tablets.
CTEU is a newly established unit designed to streamline C3’s training and outreach efforts to domestic/international law enforcement partners, assist in cyber policy development and implementation; oversee the execution of numerous high-level contracts, as well as provide logistical support of IT tools and equipment for C3 and HSI field office personnel.
